Permission in Principle Granted – Key Worker Homes near Truro
We are pleased to share that Cornwall Council has granted Permission in Principle (PiP) for two key worker dwellings just outside Truro.
This application presented several challenges throughout the process. The case officer initially indicated a likely refusal due to limited policy support and a perceived conflict with the local Neighbourhood Plan. However, through constructive dialogue, clear justification and a strong emphasis on need, the wider importance of providing accessible housing for key workers was recognised.
The final decision reflects this balanced view. While the scheme is acknowledged to conflict with Policy H1 of the Neighbourhood Plan, the planning officer concluded that the delivery of key worker housing carries significant material weight and aligns with the broader aims of both the Neighbourhood Plan and Policy 6 of the Cornwall Local Plan.
This is a meaningful result for a modest but important proposal, helping to provide much-needed homes for those who play a vital role in supporting local services and community wellbeing.
