Tameside General Hospital - Delivering Under Pressure

We were pleased to support ModuleCo in securing planning approval for a much-needed new maternity theatre at Tameside General Hospital.

This project was delivered under significant pressure. Formal consent took longer than anticipated and, remarkably, babies were already being delivered within the hospital before approval was secured. The experience highlighted just how essential collaboration, communication and determination are when delivering critical NHS infrastructure.

The approved scheme includes a two-storey maternity theatre building integrated into the existing hospital, together with improvements to drainage, landscaping and biodiversity. As the project evolved, several amendments were required to ensure the design could be delivered within tight NHS timeframes and funding constraints. This included:

  • a revised building footprint

  • an updated drainage strategy

  • refinements to parking and site layout

We are grateful for the proactive and pragmatic support of the planning officer, whose approach helped avoid enforcement challenges and ensured the project continued to progress smoothly.

A huge well done to everyone involved. This is an excellent example of what can be achieved when the entire project team pulls together to deliver an essential health facility.
